Silver Hill Hospital, a prominent mental health facility in Connecticut, has settled a lawsuit with the family of Leo Civitillo, a Morgan Stanley executive who died by suicide while in the hospital’s care in 2018. The lawsuit, which was nearing trial, accused the hospital of failing to properly monitor Civitillo despite his known suicidal tendencies and prior attempts to obtain lethal substances.

The family alleged that staff overlooked critical warning signs, such as Civitillo’s internet searches and acquisition of a pill crusher, and falsified records to cover up their negligence. While the settlement terms remain confidential, reports suggest it exceeds several million dollars.

Both Silver Hill Hospital and the Civitillo family have declined to comment on the agreement, citing a confidentiality clause. The case highlights ongoing concerns about patient safety and oversight in mental health facilities.
