An Orange County jury has awarded $310 million to the parents of Tyre Sampson, a 14-year-old who tragically fell to his death from the Orlando FreeFall ride at ICON Park in March 2022. The verdict grants $155 million to each parent in a wrongful death lawsuit that accused the ride's operators of negligence.

The case highlighted critical safety failures, including manual adjustments to the ride's seat sensors that left restraints dangerously loose, as confirmed by an independent forensic investigation. The lawsuit argued that these adjustments, coupled with the absence of seat belts, exposed riders to preventable risks.

While the family reached a settlement with ICON Park and the ride operator, they continue pursuing legal action against the ride’s manufacturers, Funtime Handels, who did not appear in court.

The tragedy has spurred legislative changes in Florida, including the "Tyre Sampson Act," which now requires seat belts for rides exceeding 100 feet and other safety enhancements for amusement park attractions.
