Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit accusing the company of eavesdropping on users through its Siri virtual assistant. The lawsuit alleged that Siri improperly recorded conversations when accidentally activated on Apple devices, violating user privacy. Filed in the Northern District of California, the settlement is pending judicial approval.

In addition to the monetary payout, Apple has committed to deleting any individual audio recordings collected before October 2019 within six months of the settlement's approval. The company, however, has denied any wrongdoing.

Consumers who owned Siri-enabled devices between September 17, 2014, and the end of 2024 can file claims. Eligible individuals may receive up to $20 per device, with a maximum of five devices per claimant. Payouts could vary depending on the total number of claims submitted.

This settlement brings closure to over five years of legal proceedings and highlights ongoing concerns about privacy in the tech industry.
