Trevor Keene, a New Mexico resident, has filed a class action lawsuit against Taylor Fresh Foods, a California-based farm, over allegations that the farm’s onions caused an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s. The lawsuit, filed in California federal court, claims that Keene developed E. coli symptoms after consuming a McDonald’s quarter pounder cheeseburger on October 21, 2024.
Keene is one of over 100 individuals who have been infected, with 34 hospitalized and one confirmed death. The complaint asserts that Taylor Fresh Foods is responsible for the contamination of onions that were sold to McDonald's, which were subsequently used in their burgers. Keene is seeking to certify the class action, prevent the sale or distribution of the onions until they are proven safe, and request restitution, alleging that the farm was unjustly enriched by selling the contaminated produce.
