A Florida jury has awarded $8.15 million to a family after their child was injured at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay during the park's Howl-O-Scream event in September 2022. The child entered an unsecured Stanleyville Theater, climbed onto the stage, and fell from an acrobatic trampoline, suffering blunt force trauma, lacerations to the chin, and damage to the liver and right kidney, leading to the loss of kidney function.
The family's attorneys, from Morgan & Morgan, argued that Busch Gardens was negligent in failing to secure the theater doors, which led to the child's access to the hazardous area. The jury awarded the family $8,154,350.75, rejecting Busch Gardens' pre-trial settlement offer of $40,000. However, the jury found the family 35% at fault for the incident, which resulted in a final award of $5,300,328.
