Lawsuit Filed After Son Hospitalized in Boar's Head Listeria Outbreak
- StewartWood Injury Lawyers
A federal lawsuit has been filed in Alabama by a woman on behalf of her son, who was hospitalized after contracting listeria, allegedly from consuming Boar’s Head bologna. The man, who purchased the product from a Huntsville grocery store in late July, experienced severe symptoms, including fever, headaches, and nausea, and later required a ventilator as his condition worsened. A spinal tap on August 7 confirmed the listeria infection, and his health has since deteriorated to the point where he is unable to communicate, leaving his survival uncertain.
The lawsuit comes amid a significant recall of Boar’s Head products, initially covering liverwurst and later expanding to include 71 items, totaling over 7 million pounds of deli meats and poultry. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating the outbreak, which has affected 43 people across 13 states as of August 8. The CDC warns that the actual number of cases could be higher.
