The civil trial in Galveston County, Texas, related to the tragic Santa Fe High School shooting resumed Monday after victims' attorneys completed their presentations last Friday. The lawsuit focuses on the parents of Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the accused shooter, claiming they failed to secure their firearms and seek appropriate mental health treatment for their son. The May 18, 2018, shooting resulted in 10 deaths and 13 injuries, leaving the community devastated.

Dimitrios Pagourtzis, who was 17 at the time of the incident, has been deemed incompetent to stand trial and remains in custody at North Texas State Hospital. On Monday, Pagourtzis' father testified, explaining his gun storage practices and denying prior knowledge of his son's mental health issues, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. His sister, Vasiliki Gerbsoti, also testified, describing their upbringing as typical and stating she was unaware of her brother's disturbing journal or any significant behavioral changes.

The defense intends to argue that the school district, Santa Fe ISD, should share responsibility for the shooting. Discussions are ongoing about whether the district can be included in the lawsuit. The trial is expected to continue through the week as both sides present their arguments.
