Memphis resident Nakia Harris has filed a lawsuit against Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson & Company, the makers of Enfamil, after the tragic death of her premature son, Ja Stevens. Harris claims that her son's death could have been avoided and blames the companies for not warning about the risks associated with cow's milk-based formula for premature babies.

According to the lawsuit, Enfamil failed to disclose that its ingredients might contribute to the development of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a deadly intestinal disease. Harris alleges that neither the product labels, websites, nor marketing materials mentioned this risk.

Ja Stevens was born prematurely in April 2023 and was fed Enfamil in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Shortly after, he was diagnosed with NEC and later passed away at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, although the hospital did not provide formula during his stay.

Harris is seeking compensation for her son's death, arguing that the lack of proper warnings and information from the makers of Enfamil played a crucial role in the tragic outcome.
