A federal judge dismissed a class action lawsuit against Google, ruling that the company is not obligated to refund victims of Google Play gift card scams. The case, filed by Judy May, alleged Google profited from scams and failed to protect users, but U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman found the claims insufficient. May, who was scammed into purchasing $1,000 in Google Play gift cards in 2021, argued Google should take responsibility for tracking and refunding such fraudulent transactions. While Judge Freeman dismissed the lawsuit, she allowed plaintiffs the option to amend and refile the case.
