In a recently filed class action, McDonald’s is facing claims from consumers who allege they contracted E.coli after consuming Quarter Pounders earlier this month. Plaintiffs Amanda McCray of Chicago and William Michael Kraft of Davie, Florida, seek damages on behalf of affected customers across the U.S., stating they would have avoided purchasing the product had they been aware of the contamination risk.

The lawsuit, filed in Chicago federal court, demands over $5 million in damages for those impacted. McDonald’s responded by temporarily halting Quarter Pounder sales at 2,800 of its 14,000 U.S. locations after 75 illnesses and one death were linked to the outbreak. Following its earnings report this week, CEO Chris Kempczinski expressed regret and assured the public of McDonald’s commitment to food safety.
