A Connecticut jury has awarded $30 million to Elizabeth Tigani, who suffered permanent injuries following an improper C-section in 2014. With prejudgment interest, the total award could reach $68 million, according to her legal team. Tigani, 32 at the time, was admitted for the delivery of her first child on December 6, 2014. After nearly 24 hours of labor, she underwent a delayed cesarean section on December 7, which resulted in severe damage to her bladder and uterus.

Tigani's attorneys argued that Dr. Sara Elias, responsible for her care, was negligent in delaying the surgery and mishandling the procedure, leaving Tigani unable to have more children. A lawsuit was filed in 2016 against Westchester Medical Group and Elias, though the hospital was later removed as a defendant. After a three-week trial, the jury awarded Tigani $1.4 million in economic damages and $29 million in non-economic damages for pain, suffering, and loss of future opportunities.
